Abstract

This article identifies virtues, strategies, and best practices in the Spanish press related to the values of the Ecosocial Transition (ET), a concept that entails environmental and economic justice, social equity, and a new ethic of care. Using a qualitative analytical observation methodology, nine newspaper titles are studied –abc.es, elpais.com, elmundo.es, publico.es, lamarea.com, eldiario.es, infolibre.es, ctxt.es y elsaltodiario.com– to identify their business, editorial, thematic, and discursive strategies. The research is framed within post-developmentalist conceptual frameworks such as ecofeminism, degrowth, and «good living». The newspapers analyzed show uneven progress toward communication committed to the ET. While some, such as elsaltodiario.com, adopt transformative and structural practices, others maintain a more symbolic, fragmented, or superficial adherence. As a result of this observation, a decalogue of best practices is proposed as a tool to assist media outlets wishing to «transition» toward communication linked to the Ecosocial Transition.
