No presente texto, são analisadas as notícias emitidas pela rádio portuguesa durante a campanha para o referendo à Interrupção Voluntária da Gravidez, concluindo que a rádio construiu a realidade com base nos sons de políticos e de acordo com a visão masculina. The sound construction of reality: an analysis of the abortion referendum's radio coverage in Portugal Radio language directs us to the universe of sonority, in which reality is reconstructed with its own sound codes resulting from a process of technical manipulation that enables the listener to interpret the messages by building mental images. Radio journalists face a permanent challenge: how to report the reality using sounds only; therefore, how to use a set of sound elements which enable them to reconstruct reality and to make this reconstruction available to their listeners. The present paper aims at reflecting upon the way such sound reconstruction is made. It begins with a short theoretical framework about the use of sound in radio and its importance for radio expressivity. Then it examines how TSF, Antena 1, and Renascença radio stations covered the recent campaign on the Abortion Referendum in Portugal, through an empirical analysis based on radio sound resources. ER -
